Psoraleae is a dry ripe fruit with the functions of warming kidney, strengthening Yang, warming spleen and tonifying kidney. It is used for the treatment of impotence and spermatorrhea, enuresis and frequent urination, cold pain in waist and knee, kidney deficiency for asthma and diarrhea. Psoraleae also has multiple pharmacological activities, such as anti-tumor, treatment of osteoporosis, estrogen-like effect, antibacterial and treatment of vitiligo. Psoralen has the effect of increasing melanin and can produce phototoxic reaction under ultraviolet lamp, selectively inhibiting the synthesis of DNA in epidermal cells.
