     Androstenone is a steroid found in large amounts in the saliva of uncastrated boars, human sweat and urine from men and women, and very little in the cytoplasm of celery. Androstenone is the first mammal to be defined as a pheromone (porcine pheromone).

Boar drool contains high levels of androstenone (porcine ketene), and when oestrus females smell it, they arch their backs and pose for sex. Androsterone is the active ingredient in Boarmate, an artificial insemination product that dupont sells to pig farmers to test whether sows are in heat. It is worth noting that the main pheromone ingredient in the pheromone perfume sold on the market is mostly of this kind.
