Shikimic acid is found in the dry, ripe fruit of the magnoliaceae plant star anise. The star anise is a kind of evergreen tree that grows in wet, warm and semi-shade environment, can reach 30 meters high. Mainly distributed in fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and other provinces of loose soil in the mountains. The bark is grayish to reddish brown. Leaves simple, elliptic, lanceolate, leathery, short stalks, 6-12 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, transparent oil spots visible on upper surface. Chemicalbook blooms in spring and autumn.
